1. POSTS & TELEGRAPHS.

Mail Services.

(a) Local Mails Service came into operation for letters and post

cards at 1941 rates on 28th September.

(b) Surface Mails are now despatched to all parts as opportunity

offers. Closed mails have been despatched to U.K., India,

Australia, Canada, United States, Ceylon, Malaya, Egypt, Siam,

Indo-China, Macao and China, whilst correspondence for other

countries are forwarded through one of the above countries.

Mails for Canton are sent by train daily.

(c) Air Mails by R.A.F. aircraft are despatched as follows:-

London and Calcutta three times weekly; Kunming twice weekly;

Sydney, Leyte, Singapore and Shanghai once a week. Negotiations

are in progress for the despatch of air mails to Canton, Chung-

king and Shanghai by planes of Chinese National Airways.

Air Mails from all parts arrive irregularly, but this should

improve in time.

(d) Parcel Service was resumed on 1st Nov. to the following

countries: United Kingdom, Canada, Macao and China, and will

be extended to other countries at a later date.

The only restriction now in force is that insurance is not

undertaken.

(e) British Postal Orders were placed on sale from 19th Nov.

(f) Registered Letter Service for all destinations commenced

on 24th. Oct.
